Innovation in the interior design space is not easy to define. It can be as simple as a small creative shift – or it can mean revolutionary change.
Innovation in the interior design space is not easy to define. It can be as simple as a small creative shift – or it can mean revolutionary change. Innovation works across both form and function, and includes any combination of new materials, the refinement of a style, or the manipulation of shape and colour. When done successfully, it will result in design excellence. A new product that achieves its core function while also becoming timeless in beauty, encapsulates our understanding of innovation.
This month, we profile eight pieces of our product range that embody innovation and design excellence: the Armato Table Lamp in Stained Black Metallic Porcelain with Brass Shade by Kelly Wearstler; our Bar Carts in Shiny Nickel & White Marble and in Brass & Black Marble; the Kate Spade Modern Neale Table Lamp in White Leather and Satin Black; the Halcyon Crystal Table Lamp by Kelly Wearstler; the Anders Side and Coffee Tables and the Monaco Black Marble Side Table.
Visual Comfort Armato Table Lamp in White / Stained Black Metallic Porcelain with Brass Shade by Kelly Wearstler
Kelly Wearstler is known for pushing boundaries when it comes to all facets of design, including lighting design, employing many different materials and juxtaposing the raw and refined. We previously profiled her Cleo Floor Lamp, which features a bold and playful combination of three different shapes and materials. Her most recent addition to our range of products, the Armato Table Lamp, is another innovative addition. Simple but elegant, Wearstler pairs a non-traditional brass shade with a porous stained black metallic porcelain. The result is a lamp that feels contemporary, classic, and boundary-pushing all at once. The intricate detail of the porcelain invites the touch of the viewer, while the brass shade lights up the room with brilliant glamour. Wearstler continues to change the way we perceive lighting design. The Armato is also available in white, with a white fabric shade.
Bar Carts: in Shiny Nickel & White Marble and in Brass & Black Marble
Glamour and functional luxury is realized in our Shiny Nickel & White Marble Bar Cart. For those unafraid of making a statement, this oversized bar cart refines art deco elements to bring a modern and sophisticated style to any living room space. Polished white marbling and stunning nickel are combined to leave a bold and unapologetic impression. The larger than life nature of the cart means that it has great potential beyond just holding drinks, and can serve as a stylish center console or a chic storage unit. Versatile and captivating, our Bar Cart is also available in Antique Brass & Black Marble finish - for a more urban, metropolitan feel. Whether you’re going for sleek downtown elegance or Hollywood style, each finish can satisfy the needs of your upscale entertainment room design.
Kate Spade Modern Neale Table Lamp in White Leather and Satin Black with Cream Linen Shade
Arguably one of the biggest fashion designers of the 1990’s, Kate Spade gained success by making high-end designer handbags more affordable to the public. Spade’s stylish and youthful handbags were soon unmissable on womens’ arms across every big city in America. Following the same model, Spade decided that she would make waves in home design as well, launching her own line of homeware lighting and occasional furniture. 20 years later, the same youthful, modern and upscale qualities of her first Kate Spade handbags are now found in her Modern Neale Table Lamp in White Leather and Satin Black. Pure white leather adds a suitably contemporary edge to the lamp, while the matte black ceramic base provides a striking contrast in tone. Unashamedly modern, gold hardware accents and a tall cream linen shade bring a sense of timeless elegance to the lamp that helps to temper its contemporary leanings. Spade’s innovative sensibility will be sorely missed.
The Halcyon Crystal Table Lamp by Kelly Wearstler
Crystal is not usually associated with raw, primal design. Kelly Wearstler changes this with her Halcyon Crystal Table Lamp. With a base seemingly cut out of a mountain, the Halcyon Lamp turns the refined elegance of crystal on its head. Bold and daring, the lamp immediately attracts the eye of the viewer. While the slim bell shaped linen shade brings a sense of order to the design, the asymmetrical lines of the crystal base work to break up any monotony present in a room. Yet another innovative design by Kelly Wearstler -- a style that can’t be imitated.
Anders Side and Coffee Tables
The architectural stylings of our Anders Side and Coffee Tables are a gorgeous example of an updated 1970’s design. A forward-thinking combination of brass and walnut veneer characterize both tables. The sleek lines of the brass trim highlight the high-quality walnut timber finish. With gorgeous tapered walnut legs fitted with brass caps, these tables marry the modern and classic look. Paired together in a sitting or entertainment room, the tables exude hip luxury and style. Intriguing brass hooks adorn the sides of both tables, inviting a scarf or hat – or more typically to be left unadorned. Monaco Black Marble Side Table
Modern interior designers have naturally moved to more adventurous styling when it comes to selecting pieces for a room design. For homes in big cities, classical styles have given way to modern urban designs that feature pieces with raw finishes, combinations of new and old materials, and a natural colour palette. For a piece that checks all three boxes, look no further than the Monaco Black Marble Side Table. With a fierce combination of black marble accented with white streaks and jet black metal table legs, the Monaco Side Table is an urban update of a classic marble side table design. Paired with the Visual Comfort Armato Table Lamp by Kelly Wearstler, the two pieces perfectly embody timeless chic. Head to our website for more insights into our range of innovative products.
